2004 marks the 35th anniversary of the Marching Band Workshop held at West Chester University and run by Vivace Productions, Inc. This program, along with our Leadership Training Workshops and George N. Parks Drum Major Academies, focuses on teaching students how to be better ensemble members by giving them the opportunity to work with the best in the business, including Tim Lautzenheiser, George Parks, Thom Hannum, Michael Cesario, and many more!
Our Marching Band Workshop provides an opportunity for students to learn about contemporary marching techniques through sessions geared specifically for drum majors, color guard members, percussionists, instrumentalists, and twirlers. Each group works with instructors who are the leaders in their field. The marching band learns and performs a short field show, the color guard and twirlers learn various techniques and routines, and some percussionists have ensemble time, while others opt to participate in the marching band field show. Each group concludes camp with a demonstration of what they have learned.
The George N. Parks Drum Major Academy continues to shape students into leaders who truly contribute to the growth of their band. This program is intended for drum majors or students interested in becoming one in the future. The camp focuses primarily on conducting, marching technique, calling of commands, and building leadership skills. Students work in squads and as a large group.
Our Leadership Training Workshops place an emphasis on building the skills students need to be effective in leadership positions. Students learn the basics of these skills and then work on how to apply them when working with their peers. Skills include communication, trust, and pier interaction exercises. This program is offered in a two-day format at West Chester University and in a one or two-day format at locations throughout the United States.
Learning the skills from those who teach the best bands in the country, students leave our camps with a better understanding of what it means to be an integral part of any ensemble.
